WELCOME TO
 PHOENIX FALCONRY

                                       News - October 2010

After what we should really describe as a lovely summer, autumn is upon us once again.

That crisp morning air and crunch underfoot has my senses tingling, heightened to what can only be described as a primeval urge to hunt and gather before the depths of winter.

With the first morning ground frosts of the year the abundant summer foliage is already drying up, and we are able to see the woodland floor once again, making the views of our daily hawk chases so much easier.

The resident Grey lag and Pink foot geese have returned to our valley from their northern breeding grounds in their thousands and nothing stirs the spirits more than seeing and hearing these majestic skeins overhead heading out to plunder the local farmlands.

The young Roe deer fawns are starting to look more mature losing their baby spots in favour of their smart red winter coats.

Each day our own cheeky Red squirrel makes an appearance, hoping for yet another free offering from the bird table to which he is always very welcome.

We have had a reasonable breeding season and several of our 2010 babies are well into their basic training. The hunting season has started and we have got our resident hunting team back on weight and well on their road to fitness with several kills, and dozens of quality chases already to their credit.

If you’re even remotely interested in seeing what birds of prey hunt like, this is the time of year to come out and see for your-self, especially with some of the special offers we currently have available.

So pick up the phone and book your date, we’ll get the kettle on........
